Hey there! I’m Hannah Spray, and I’m delighted that you found my little piece of digital paradise!
I live a happy, busy life on a beautiful little island on the West Coast of British Columbia (that’s in Canada, eh). I am a licensed Early Childhood Educator, so I thought that my experience as a preschool teacher, special needs aide and childcare provider would make motherhood a snap – I was so very wrong. It’s much different than being the facilitator of early learning in a group of children who don’t belong to you, and I am finding a lot of challenges and new perspectives on childhood and parenting. However, my background has certainly come in handy with encouraging my daughter to learn about herself and the world through the different experiences and invitations to play and learn that I enjoy offering. I love to share my tips and tools for helping parents and children navigate their unique journeys in positive ways. Making sure that parents feel supported and positive about their role as the most important people in their children’s lives is a top priority for me.
In my spare time (Ha! Mamas, you know what I mean) I like to play on my guitar and ukulele, make awesome creations, capture beautiful memories through my camera lens (many of the photos on this blog are taken by me), and – of course – writing about my ideas and experiences. I love adventures, be it hiking, camping, boating, fishing, or traveling, and I’m excited to see where I’ll end up next. There are a lot of other things I’m itching to get to on my life’s big to-do list. I want to do and be so many different things, and I don’t want to be restricted to one truth of self. I want variety and a wealth of perspectives. Yes, I’m a mom, that’s on the forefront of my current experience, but I’m also so much more. I believe that with honesty and openness, things can improve for everyone by bringing new perspectives to the table, which is wonderful. There really is no one truth about anything. Life is messy and perfectly imperfect. That’s what makes it so intricately beautiful.
Natural living is important to me. My mama raised me to be very aware what we put on, in and near our bodies and minds, and how we care for our world. This has had a big influence on my passion for using and sharing about businesses that are eco-friendly, say no to toxins, and operate by ethical means. I want to help create an awareness about making healthy choices when it comes to the products we use, while also keeping in mind that stress can often be just as harmful – keeping a balance of ideals and ease is important. You can live life without ever using toxic beauty products or eating processed foods, but if you’re so stressed out making sure you’re living up to your “perfect” ideal, your health will most likely suffer anyways. Balance, balance, balance. Do what you can, when you can, and don’t beat yourself up for making compromises.
My passion for writing motivated me to start The Big To-Do List. Along the way I’ve learned that, through blogging, I can attempt to make the world at least a little bit better, which is really the driving force behind why I blog. I can share experiences, information and support with others that might benefit from what I have to say. It completely makes my day when people express to me how much they love to read my words, and that they connected with what I have to say.
I’m thrilled to be part of the Savvy Mom Collective, as well as a passionate contributor to Green Moms Collective and a proud part of the YMC community. I’ve also been published on The Good Mother Project, Huffington Post, and have been included in numerous compilation posts by other bloggers.
Honesty is king. My life is an open book, and what you see is what you get. I also try to add in as much playful humour as possible (even if it’s laughing at my own ridiculousness and the situations I find myself in), to serve as reminder that attitude is a choice – there is always something to smile at. Sometimes it just takes trying on a different perspective.
I will always try to acknowledge the other views and truths to a scenario. If you have some thoughts you’d like to share on anything I have to say about anything, please feel free to let me know by commenting or connecting via email: firstname.lastname@example.org. I’m always open to other ideas and feedback!
Wondering how we can work together? Whether you’re looking for a product review, honest advertising, or want a chance to share you’re own ideas and perspectives, you can find options for making great things happen by collaborating with me here.
