Who doesn’t love getting fresh?
As the stay-at-home mom of an active, experimental, playful and potty-training toddler, I have to admit I don’t always smell very good. The stench of sour milk, splattered breakfast, and you-don’t-even-want-to-know-what-this-is smeared all over my clothes and skin makes the lack of quality showering time really stick out.
I love to feel fresh. To feel clean. To smell even slightly better than the overdone eggs I massacred this morning.
Ladies and gentlemen (or, the few gentlemen who read my blog without getting scared off by talk of breastfeeding and rampant hormonal swings), this is why I am positively pumped to share with you a mama-loving brand that is keen on providing you with luxurious hygiene and beauty products, that will have you reminiscing about the sweet-smelling, sexy little vixen you once felt like. And if you never felt confident about looking and smelling beautiful? It’s time to start.
As a proud part of the Green Moms Collective’s 2nd Green Beauty campaign, I was happy as pie (Wait. How happy is pie? Oh well, you get the idea.) to receive my very own stick of Moroccan Rose Absolute all natural deodorant from Lovefresh.
As serendipity would have it, I had already become familiar with the luxurious natural products that Lovefresh has to offer. Earlier this year, I won a giveaway of their Pink Grapefruit & Tangerine Scrub – a green beauty alternative to exfoliants that utilize plastic microbeads, which absorb toxins, slip past wastewater facilities and cause damage to our ecosystems when they are eaten by fish.
I have to say, switching to a greener body scrub smells pretty freaking fantastic. Mmm… Allow me a moment to bathe in the scrumptious scents from the jar of scrub I have sitting next to me as I write this.
Alright, back to reality and back to the purpose of this post: to acquaint you with Lovefresh and review my new deodorant.
Originally started in the kitchen of health-conscious woman – Stacey Davis – who was convinced that luxury and beauty could go hand in hand with natural ingredients. Stacy went on to create a complete line of all natural body care products that are non-toxic and very successful at doing their job – allowing natural beauty to shine without compromising health.
By using only the best ingredients that have been sourced locally and globally, and steering clear of toxins that pollute and damage the body, Stacey has built a brand that stands by it’s commitment to quality and integrity.
And, like all of the sponsors for the Green Moms Collective Green Beauty Campaign, I’m proud to note that Lovefresh is a Canadian company.
It’s no secret that most of the deodorants and antiperspirants contain some pretty risky ingredients. Aluminum, aluminum chlorohydrate, parabens, propylene glycol, triclosan, TEA, DEA, FD&C colors, and Talc are only some of the toxins that are highly concerning to those of us that smear on our pit sticks as part of our daily routine, maybe even multiple times a day. I’m not going to draw out this post by explaining why each of these ingredients are considered hazardous to our health, but I encourage you to read this for a deeper explanation of what we’re up against. (Just promise to come back here once you’re done, okay?)
To be honest, I’ve tried a variety of all-natural deodorants over the past year or so. There are some really great intentions out there in the way of naturally green hygiene. However, these previous deodorant products had some unfortunate downsides.
My mom used to use this rock crystal stick thing in lieu of the “regular” deodorants (Thank you mom, for raising me to be aware that companies won’t always have my best interests at heart), so this was my first step in searching for a cleaner stink-stopper. Want to know how many times I used it? Maybe a handful. You had to wet it and with that extra step and all the dripping, I quickly lost steam and the rock sat still at the back of my medicine cabinet.
Then I tried some delicious-smelling natural pit products that I held high hopes for stopping the stench. The drawback to most of these, though, was that they came in small tubs. How was I supposed to apply them? I ended up using my fingers, which wasted product, left my fingers all sticky, and again my dreams of greener hygiene were banished to collect dust.
The last problem I encountered in seeking a natural deodorant was the staying power – or rather, the lack of staying power. Yes, it smelled great, yes it seemed to work, but when spit hit the fan and I was sweating like a hog at a pig roast, I would be forced to reapply over and over to keep from smelling like I had spent the night in a football team’s laundry hamper.
I don’t know if it was careful investigation or sheer, blissful coincidence, but I could not have received a more appropriate scent than the luxurious aroma of delicate roses. In the last year, I have become a big fan of roses. One could probably pin point the moment when I came to desire rose scents and flavours to shortly after last Christmas, when there was a surplus of “interesting” candies on the sale rack at my local grocery store. Taking home a box of rose-flavoured, traditional Turkish delights (the kind of small chewy candies that are smothered in powdered sugar), I devoured the entire box before my husband came home that day, leaving nothing but an embarrassing mess of white powder all over my clothes and the living room to tell the tale of candies past.
So, do I like the way this deodorant stick smells? Heck yes I do! But don’t worry, if you’re not a big fan of smelling like a rose, there are five other attractive scents to try out.
I also love that applying it to my underarms is easy, with the deodorant stick nestled snugly within a cylinder that operates in the same way as those delicious push-pop ice cream treats my grandparents used to have. (As a side note, that ice cream delivery system was the bomb. What ever happened to it?)
To put the Lovefresh deodorant to the test, I slapped on my hiking shoes and set out for a sweaty adventure up Mt Erskine – our local wonderland, dotted with fairy doors and gifted fairy trinkets. The view at the top, overlooking our Pacific Ocean and Vancouver Island, is breathtaking. The steep, winding, uneven trail leading up the mountain is also quite breathtaking – literally.
With my 23-lb toddler strapped to my back, I heaved and puffed and tried to keep up with the long-legged, very fit mama friend who kept the pace up as we quickly ascended on the mountain trail. It was about 20 feet into the hike when I realized I am wildly out of shape. I was gasping for breath, sweating profusely, and wondering if it were possible for my legs to actually fall off. I felt the risk was highly likely.
I tell you all of this, because even after this active, sweaty escapade, my pits smelled lovely. I didn’t even need to reapply the rose-scented deodorant afterward. I probably should have showered, truth be told, but hey. Sometimes you’ve got to live a little.
My positive experience with Lovefresh products has made a loyal customer out of me. I am happy to support such a health-conscious, quality brand, and am thrilled to be able to share these choices for greener beauty and body care with you.

Will be booking marking LoveFresh! I have been on the hunt for a natural deodorant. it is crazy the amount of chemicals we are exposed to everyday in seemingly harmless (and necessary) products!
I actually find I sweat less now that I’ve got out “traditional” deodorant/antiperspirant. Never going back!
