What gets you going? What makes you feel good, makes you sigh out of contentment and fills your soul to the brim with happiness and life?
When the hard times and blue days come along (and they will from time to time, no matter what), it’s important to keep your focus on what it is that makes you tick – your passions that make life worth living. Keeping focused on the positive potential in your journey will give you direction and a lifeline to cling to when the sea of life seems to have tossed you overboard.
Here are some of my passions, in no particular order, which fill up my soul whenever it needs refueling.
1. My little munchkin – Obviously being a mama is a big part of my life. I could never have imagined how much I would love this rapidly growing little being, or how much and how easily she makes me smile.
2. Music – Listening to pretty well every genre, or making my own, music is a fantastic way to reach inside of myself and find a piece of happiness or contentment in the darkest of times. My stereo and my guitar have been my therapists on many occasions. I’m so thankful I decided to teach myself to play the guit-box.
3. Teaching – I LOVE my career! It makes me feel valued and respected to be such an important part of young lives, and the interactions with these fresh souls touches my heart on a regular basis. I get to do my best to provide children with the tools and the space to become the best human beings they can be, and I learn so much from them, right alongside with them. You can actually read a whole post I wrote about Why I Love Working with Children.
4. The great outdoors – Being outside in the fresh air, in and amongst all the natural wonders of the world, I can relax my soul, renew my energy, and refocus my thoughts. I try to get my daughter outside every day. Camping, exploring, traveling, or taking a walk, there are few things more restorative to the soul.
5. Creating – Whether it’s sewing a dress, knitting a sweater, drawing a portrait, or putting together something we need, I love to work with my creative energy. It feels good to bring into being something that is useful or beautiful – hopefully both!
6. Writing – I’ve come to realize how much I enjoy putting my thoughts to paper… Or keyboard. Expressing my ideas and knowing that I’m reaching other people with them, causing them to be inspired, crack a smile, or know they’re not alone gives me a sense of purpose.
7. Friendship – What would life be like without friendship? I’m constantly being inspired and uplifted by the amazing people, both family and friends, in my life. In times of triumph and sorrow, the true friends are there to share in the memory or help you find a way to make the situation better.
Now it’s your turn. What are the parts of your life you’re most passionate about? What fills your soul?
