A Quick Update on My Vancouver Adventure

Hello BC Ferry, bane of my travelling existence.

Hello BC Ferry, bane of my travelling existence.

More than 3-hour ferry rides will never be my favourite. Especially with a little one and no one else to pass her off to. But, we made it with the help of the books and toys I packed, walking loop after loop of the ferry, checking out the “Kids Zone” (which is really just a carpeted area with a couple hard, hazardous metal cars and boats) and visiting the Christmas tree no less than 10 times to stare at the ornaments and pretty lights.

Wait, why am I going on a ferry? Read this post. It will get you up to speed.

The girls are great. So thankful to have their help keeping Z entertained while I attempt to tidy up (not looking like I’m making much headway here) or make a quick bathroom run. You know, the luxuries.

The dog has been a bit of a challenge, being a super energetic puppy. We started looking for a dog-walker after our attempt at a trail this morning. Let’s just say I’ve had less stressful mornings. At least the scenery was beautiful. This area is where the filming of the TV series Once Upon a Time was done. If you haven’t seen this amazing show and you like fairy tales, I suggest you check it out. Most (all?) the seasons are on Netflix.

Oh and to make sure I’m not plagued with the silly idea that this the stars are in my favour this trip, my wee babe may have a case of the chicken pox. Everything the past 2 days leading up to last night’s very sudden case of red bumps all over suggests it (I spent a good chunk of time on the nurses line last night). They’re going around our little island, so it wouldn’t surprise me. The weird thing is, though, when I checked her in the night (in the dark with the light from my phone on just her face… Very reliable), the bumps seemed to have gone down considerably. So perhaps “just” a very weird allergic reaction to something. To what I have no idea, as she hasn’t tried anything new and has spent a lot of time around dogs before.

I’m not sure which is worse, but I’m kind of hoping the spots are gone when she wakes up so we can continue on with our planned outings and non-itchy, non-infectious week.

Phewph! What a first day!

Yes! Routine seems to be the key, and I think we’re finally getting the hang of it now that there’s only one more day left. Haha. Isn’t that always the way?
