I can’t believe how much of a difference it makes! Actually, I can believe it, but I always forget how much more phenomenal pictures are with a real, quality camera instead of my cell phone. It’s remarkable to be able to get some very nice photos using my iPhone, but unless you have really good lighting, they end up all grainy and blurry and blah. I love photography, but it’s easy to find yourself disappointed when you look at what you’ve shot and feel like you’re not any good at capturing what you had thought you would.
Yesterday I pulled out my hubby’s our fancy digital SLR Nikon camera (ah marriage – what’s yours is mine, right hubs?) and got all trigger happy up in here.
The pictures I got are stunning! First there was the pumpkin patch (toddlers in a field full of gorgeously hued orange orbs on a bright, sunshiny fall day – how can you go wrong?).
And then, arriving back home, I noticed a for was in our yard. Since I never have the camera handy when I see one, and happened to be out there with it all ready to go, I giddily tromped out into the lawn to snap some pictures of the deer we see so often. That’s when I bumped into a creature I don’t generally see. A large buck, well-endowed with a set of majestic/dangerous looking antlers. What a lucky (and for a moment, when we locked eyes and he stood up all powerful and on guard, worrisome) surprise!
Last, but certainly not least, was the original reason for pulling out the camera that day: taking photographs for a good friend so she could get some quality maternity photos with her little family and her gorgeous, lush belly, full with the wonder that is growing an entire human being inside of her body. (Stay tuned for a post coming soon about my experience of playing photographer and some things I learned, featuring more of my favourite shots from this fun new adventure!)
From now on, I’m going to make a much bigger effort to haul around and take out this tool that makes such a difference in capturing memories. Now is the time to preserve these intensely adorable and precious scenarios with my quickly-growing daughter. Keep an eye out, lovely people! My photos are about to get taken up a notch as I play around with photography using the fancy DSLR camera!
What do you use to capture your memories?

Gorgeous photos! I have had my Nikon DSL for years and am still learning how to use it to its’ full potential!
I agree… my real camera always produces much better results. Stunning photos. Well done.
Thanks, Sarah! I love taking photos so much more when they actually look good!
My camera also produces better photo’s. However, I rarely have it with me now and my phone is always in my pocket or purse, so much more convenient
That’s probably exactly why I never use this one. I’m trying to make more of a point of keeping it handy and ready to use and making sure to bring it with me. It’s been used a lot more lately than it has in a while, so hopefully that keeps up!
I totally agree. Now, if only I knew how to actually use my DSLR camera, they’d be even that much better again!
Yes! There are so many settings, lens, and options, and my photography courses in high school seem to be long since forgotten.
I need to pull my Nikon out. It’s been sitting on a shelf for a couple years 😳. I’ve just been using my phone. The pictures just don’t compare, though.
Yes you do! Phones these days do take some decent pictures in full light, but it sure does make a powerful difference to see the same shot through a good quality camera. I’d love to see some of your pictures! Let me know when you pull out your Nikon!
